Information design principles for Web 2.0

People are changing the way they consume online information along with their expectations on how it is delivered and web design is reflecting that.

With the advent of Web 2.0, web information designers are now moving beyond the basic visual organisation of content elements and into the area of social simplicity where the elements such as information reading, contributing and exchanging are designed in ways to make them mutually supportive and synergistic.

Web designers now need to adopt the multiple forms of interaction and engagement that Web 2.0 services and technologies now offer, such as multi-dimensional navigation, social bookmarking, community search, readers recommendations and comments, user generated content and contributions, video and chat components, etc.

Web 2.0 has brought significant design innovation with designs that are simple, have visual impact and highly legible 2.0 styles.

There are now alternative forms of navigation which include the ability to browse, tag clouds, tabbed navigation, etc. Advances in technology are affecting the way that information is structured and laid out on web pages.

Websites today aim for intuitive and usable interfaces which are continuously evolving in response to the user’s needs. Website designers are now looking at information design differently and are designing simple, interactive websites that encapsulate the advancements in web interface design and user needs.

Information design principles for Web 2.0 design are simple and social.

  1. I agree simplicity is the key, users can get their info quickly and if they have time they can browse all the other links.
