PETA's Target Audience

The target audience of the site is worldwide, substantial and varied and is not limited to one particular demographic.

PETA has more than 2 million members and supporters worldwide and is the largest animal rights organisation in the world.

The audience the site targets range from young children through to senior citizens, both male and female across corporate, private and public sectors.

PETA works via public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement and protest campaigns.

Basically PETA’s site encompasses educating policymakers and the public about animal abuse and promotes kind treatment of animals. PETA seeks to bring together members from all sectors including scientific, judicial and legislative communities.

Because of this, PETA’s site has a mammoth task of catering to a vast audience worldwide and providing a website to appeal to an extensive range of users. With this in mind, PETA’s website needs to be kept simple and straightforward because of the wide range of its users.

As an example, at any one time there could be a teenager looking up what products are tested on animals; a politician reading what PETA is saying about a certain piece of legislation; and a celebrity researching what protest or campaign they would like to support.

  1. Seeing the audience is so varied the bigger text would be good for the older people and people are impatient so keeping is simple and straightforward saves time.

  2. I did not realise instantly the site was about animal cruelty it looks more like that ninesmn site not sure if that is the right spelling. I agree the site is too crammed with information yet the content is informative. I like the way they have changed the fast food adverts into anti-cruelty ads. The accessability choice is great and I've never noticed that before. I agree the site needs some design changes with the layout, hierarchy and that congestion needs to be eliminated. I suppose there is so many issues regarding cruelty that they want people to see them straight away.

  3. The PETA site is informative, having a lot of information on it. Since it's users are basically Everyone, globally, it would be great to see it become a bit more organised and user friendly. Maybe links for archived categorised/indexed information could be used, as well as for current issues (greater detail to be given thru that, rather than trying to cram it onto a front page), recent issues, animal-specific issues, etc.
